Geelong Victoria: truck crashes into a house on steep street

Fears for residents as a truck crashes into a house on a steep street

  • Incident occurred on Friday morning at Geelong, Victoria

A family were luck to escape injury when a large flatbed truck has crashed into their house.

The incident occurred just after 8am on Friday morning on North Valley Rd at Highton, a western suburb of Geelong in Victoria.

Images from Channel Seven’s news helicopter appear to show skid marks left by the unladen flatbed truck before it careened into the house.

Ambulance Victoria were called to the scene but no injuries to either the occupants of the house or the truck driver were reported.

A couple in their 40s and a teenager were in the house when the accident occurred but were unharmed.

A 61-year-old man who was not in the truck when it crashed into the house was spoken to by police.

Initial theories suggest the truck was parked before its brakes failed and it rolled down a hill, damaging a hatchback for crashing into the residence.

A building surveyor was also called to the scene to assess the safety of the house after the crash.

Neighbour Sherry Powell told the Geelong Advertiser her daughter looked out the window and saw the truck rolling down the hill.

‘I heard the back part of the truck dragging against the road,’ she said.

More to come.
