She reached the heights of success as a television presenter.

And Catriona Rowntree has now set her sights on soaring the skies above Victoria.

The 51-year-old Getaway host has earned her pilot’s licence after taking flying lessons, reports the Herald Sun.

She spoke of her achievement in an Instagram post on Thursday, revealing she had previously tried and failed to reach her goal.

‘I boarded a flight [this morning] and could hear people talking about me whilst reading this article,’ the travel journalist wrote.

‘I hope it inspires at least one other woman, regardless of age, to learn to fly, indeed for anyone to tackle a goal they may have,’ she added.

She admitted it was a ‘beautiful feeling’ to attend her flight classes this week, and felt empowered to be among other students aged between 14 and 80. 

Catriona was given the task of navigating a TL Ultralight Sting during her course.

Catriona does not have any plans to buy her own aircraft yet, but she is looking forward to accumulating her flight hours and being a part of the aviation community.

‘I had to do the course intensively because I’m married to a farmer so I did it in a few weeks,’ she said. 

Luckily she had a supportive network including her husband James Pettit, which made the experience all the more rewarding. 

The seasoned reporter is best known as a presenter on the Channel Nine travel show Getaway, a role she started in 1996.
