A NSW father has been arrested by the child abuse squad and refused bail after his daughter was hospitalised with bruises and illegal drugs in her system.
The nine-year-old girl was taken to John Hunter Hill Hospital in Newcastle, unresponsive, on Monday after she allegedly ingested illicit-drug laced food and was assaulted.
The child abuse squad arrested the 28-year-old father at a Raymond Terrace home on Monday night, as Detectives allege he assaulted the girl.

Doctors at the hospital were told she had ingested illicit drugs and may have also been given non-prescribed medication.
The girl remains in hospital while forensic analysis determines what she consumed.
The father was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was denied bail at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Tuesday.
He is scheduled to appear at the same court again on May 27.
A NSW police spokesman told Daily Mail Australia that the investigations are still ongoing.
