Google unveils a special pink Barbie theme to mark release of new film

Google gets a Barbie makeover to mark release of new film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling

  • Google has unveiled a new Easter egg for fans searching for the new Barbie film
  • The hotly anticipated movie will be released in the US and UK on Friday (July 21)

With just days to go until the release of the new Barbie movie, Google has joined in on the pink parade and has added an exciting surprise for fans.

The search engine has embraced ‘Kenergy’ with a new Easter egg for fans searching for the movie.

Users who search for the film, its director or the two main stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will be greeted with a sparkling pink display.

The lavish greeting is available on both mobile and desktop, and changes the usual white background into a more Barbie-appropriate pink.

Joining in on the Barbie buzz, Google has unveiled a new pink theme in the final countdown to the film’s release. Fans searching for the film are greeted by a extravagant pink display

It is the latest in a long line of promotional activities for the hotly anticipated movie, following the release of splashy film posters, Barbie dolls and a series of enticing trailers.

But perhaps the most extravagant of all was a hot-pink Malibu Dreamhouse which cropped up, seemingly overnight, in California.

Google is no stranger to adding features to various search results, and the newest update will no doubt add to the Barbie buzz.

Fans reacted to the newest pink promo on Twitter. One said: ‘This movie’s budget is insane.’

Another agreed: ‘The promotion for this movie is on another level, we love.’

While others are seemingly fed-up of the excessive marketing, with one user joking: ‘We’ve almost survived the promotional rampage of 2023.’

Others remarked that the movie has outdone its rival film, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which is set for release on the same day.

Users commented: ‘Coming to outsell Oppenheimer’ and ‘Ended Oppenheimer.’

The two films are among the most hyped events of 2023, and some fans are even planning to watch the films back to back this weekend.
