Graham Potter is set to receive around £13million in compensation after being sacked by Chelsea taking the amount of money the club have spent on managerial costs to over £50m in the space of nine months.
Chelsea paid a Premier League record £22m to Brighton to extract Potter and his contract staff from the Amex Stadium in September after giving Thomas Tuchel a pay-off of £10m.
In addition Potter has earned around £7m in salary during his brief spell in charge.
Chelsea’s extraordinary managerial spending will increase the need for a mass sale of players this summer in order to comply with the Premier League’s spending rules after the club published losses of £121m for the 2021/22 season last week.
That figure did not include the unprecedented £550m spending spree on new players since the Todd Boehly led takeover last summer, which will leave them needing to cut costs moving forward.

To compound matters Chelsea are also facing a significant drop in income next season, with failure to qualify for Europe expected to cost them around £80m.
Unlike the cost of player signings which are spread over five years for accounting purposes, managerial expenditure is all recorded in the same year.
