Great British Bake Off: Dan Chambers is first to leave the tent

Great British Bake Off: Dan Chambers is first to leave after his pirate cake fails to impress… while fans back Jamie Finn to win (despite hapless baker failing to add EGGS to his signature sponge)

An ambitious signature bake wasn’t enough to save Dan Chambers as he became the first casualty on the new series of The Great British Bake Off.

The bearded support worker was eliminated from the Chanel 4 show, which returned with a tenth series on Tuesday evening, after his showstopper failed to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Co-host Sandi Toksvig was left with the unenviable task of informing Dan, 32, that his time in bakers the tent had come to a premature end.

‘I had a bad week, but I will definitely take away the friendships,’ he said after being given the news. I am not going to miss the baking under pressure – I’m just going to miss everyone in that tent.’

Reflecting on Rotherham based Dan’s departure, Paul admitted his decision to make an enormous, alcohol soaked pirate cake had proved to be his undoing.

‘He is a great baker Dan, but unfortunately it all boiled down to his signature bake, and that was the cause of him going,’ he said.

While fans were disappointed to see the likable characters leave, they were united in their support for rival Jamie Finn – despite him failing to add a vital ingredient to his own signature sponge.
