Helen Skelton admits the atmosphere of Strictly is enough to ‘see my through any dark days’

She narrowly missed out on the Glitterball trophy last weekend on the Strictly Come Dancing final after Hamza Yassin bagged the win.

But Helen Skelton has revealed that despite not winning, the support and atmopshere of the live final ‘would see me through any dark days’ as it helped her through a tough time.

The presenter, 39, also made a nod to the ‘wonderful people’ on the show, after appearing on the competition shortly after her split with husband of eight years Richie Myler.

Appearing on Monday morning’s Lorraine, which was hosted by stand-in Ranvir Singh, Helen spoke out on her experience in the show.

Touching on getting through her heartache on the show, the mother-of-three admitted she ‘just wanted to make my kids proud’.

Helen shares Ernie, seven, Louis, five, and 11-month-old Elsie with ex Richie, who she split with in April.

‘Look I just wanted to make my kids proud. So we didn’t quite bring home that trophy but we made memories that would make a lifetime,’ she explained.

The presenter added that winning ‘would have been the perfect way to say thank you’ for the good that Strictly did for her emotionally.

‘If I could bottle that atmosphere from Saturday, it’ll see me through any dark days. It was just the most wonderful feeling. It just goes to show what happens when you surround yourself with good people,’ she told Ranvir.

Helen, Fleur East and Mollie Rainford all lost out to Hamza and his partner Jowita Przystal for the final.

And sweetly gushing over her dance partner Gorka Marquez, Helen said that she is ‘so grateful’ for him.

‘I am so grateful to that man, he is a credit to that show and a credit to his family. That show pushes all the buttons. It’s so emotional,’ she said.

Adding: ‘He never made me say things I didn’t want to. He never made me pull the thread that would have made me unravel.’

Many fans took to social media to note Gorka’s stern face during the Strictly final as he and Helen lost out – with the latter explaining ‘he wanted to win it’.

‘If his face had said anything other than I’m disappointed, it would have been a disservice,’ she cleared up.

Helen has previously credited Strictly Come Dancing for lifting the gloom of her marriage split – and says she’s rediscovered her confidence by performing on the show.

The Countryfile presenter revealed it’s been ‘wonderfully liberating to be happy in my own skin’ while starring on Strictly following her breakup from Richie.

Helen split from the rugby player in April just weeks after the birth of their third child, and the rugby star is now expecting a baby with his new girlfriend Stephanie Thirkill.

Richie was first reported to be seeing Stephanie, 32, just days after his split from Helen.

Helen was said to feel ‘bewildered’ by the breakdown of her marriage, with a source close to the couple telling MailOnline: ‘Helen is absolutely devastated.’

They continued: ‘Now she is contemplating life without him while he has moved on with his new partner.’

Stephanie is the daughter of Andrew Thirkill, who is one of the richest businessmen in Leeds and is worth an estimated £175 million.
