He welcomed his son Cree with his wife Kate in December.

And Rio Ferdinand was every inch the doting dad as he spoke about his six-month-old son being a ‘great addition to our family’.

In a recent interview, the former footballer, 42, who is also father to Lorenz 14, Tate, 12, and Tia, ten, said he had been making the most of lockdown by spending time with his children.

Speaking to Notebook magazine about the arrival of his son, he said: ‘We’re all delighted and happy. Having a lockdown baby means you’re there a lot more as a parent.

‘You can’t go out and work as you would before, which has been great. He’s been a great addition to our family.’

And, touching upon how they coped during the pandemic as new parents while also being father to three other children, he explained he took the opportunity to bond more with his family.

The family of six spent time going on walks while also making sure the children still had a routine and completed chores.

It comes after his wife Kate, 30, confirmed she has no plans to have more children any time soon, insisting she would be a ‘madwoman’ to do so after giving birth to Cree.

The star, who is also a stepmother to Rio’s three children, asserted she doesn’t need ‘any more tears’ in the bustling household.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, she also highlighted the importance of being candid and honest about motherhood in the face of unrealistic standards perpetuated on social media.

‘I think four is enough, there’s already a lot going on and lots of crying,’ she said. ‘It’s a busy house. So I think I’d be a madwoman if I wanted anymore! Four is plenty for now.’

Content with her current family set-up, she gushed over her husband and said: ‘Rio has been amazing with Cree, he’s a wonderful dad, the kids love having the little one too!’

The reality star shot to fame on The Only Way Is Essex in 2015 before turning her back on the limelight in 2017 after sparking up a romance with Rio.
