Hidden detail in photo of a downcast Melissa and Josh arriving for Married At First Sight filming

A small detail in a photo of Married At First Sight couple Melissa Sheppard and Josh White arriving to film one of the show’s dinner parties back has sent fans into a frenzy.

In images of the cast arriving at the weekly soireee, Melissa and Josh look far from thrilled as they waited for an elevator to take them to the set.

But fans were quick to spot a downcast Josh, 40, standing with his hands behind his back while holding Gillian Flynn’s smash-hit thriller novel, Gone Girl.

The dark, twisted plot of Gone Girl tells the story of a wife who disappears on her fifth wedding anniversary.

It centres around married couple Nick and Amy Dunne (played by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in the hit movie of the same name), who on the surface appear to have it all.

But when Amy goes missing in suspicious circumstances on the day of their fifth wedding anniversary, and the police are called in to investigate, cracks soon begin to show in their seemingly perfect marriage.

Nick is caught in a media circus when his wife goes missing and the police suspect he is responsible and believe she could be dead.

It turns out Amy fakes her own disappearance and murder after being unhappy in her marriage and discovering her equally unhappy husband is having an affair with a much younger woman.

‘Someone tell Josh he doesn’t have to fake his own murder to get out of this marriage, just wrote “leave” darl,’ a fan on The Wash’s Instagram post, referencing the novel’s synopsis.

‘Is Josh reading Gone Girl?’ another added.

‘I laughed way too hard when I noticed that,’ one said.

Melissa and Josh’s marriage has been on the rocks and they both have been miserable after an increasingly irate Josh said he felt like a ‘sex object’ when Melissa confessed to having sized up his ‘big hammer’ based on observing his feet size.

During confessions week, Josh was disappointed further when his wife failed to open up to him on an emotional level, instead using the activity to express her desire for a ‘healthy sex life’.

Last week, Melissa pleaded for viewers to stop ‘bullying’ her after being branded as ‘the sex-crazed’ bride on the show.

Meanwhile other castmates decided to do some light reading during filming for the same dinner party, which was filmed last year.

It comes after a bombshell dinner party on Wednesday night after polarising groom Harrison Boon admitted he’d exchanged details with a girl he met at a bar while out partying with his co-stars.

But it has since been revealed that the 32-year-old love rat wasn’t the only groom who tried to pick up that night, as Dan Hunjas and Cam Woods also cracked on behind their wives’ backs.

Despite Sandy Jawanda and husband Dan Hunjas arriving at the dinner party hand-in-hand, the couple returned to their apartment in separate taxis after a bombshell revelation

‘These guys are meant to be committed to their new wives, but couldn’t resist temptation,’ a source told Daily Mail Australia.

The insider also revealed ‘the drinks were flowing’ and the guys were ‘shouting, cheering, and causing a scene’ at the venue.

‘It’s a wonder they didn’t get kicked out of the bar,’ they added.

Things got even more out of hand when the men stumbled back to their hotel.

There were a few heated arguments between the grooms, who were determined to downplay the incident and not tell their wives.

‘Dan wanted no involvement in the scandal and was trying to play this “good guy” card. He was trying to throw the blame all on Harrison,’ the source said.

The producers were ‘super p**sed off’ the action wasn’t caught on camera, and responded by slapping the three men with an even stricter curfew.

An 8pm curfew had been enforced earlier in the season in response to the cheating scandal between Claire Nomarhas and Adam Seed.

During Wednesday’s episode, Dan rubbished whispers he had any involvement in the rowdy boys’ night, telling his wife Sandy Jawanda he ‘didn’t want any kind of trust issues’ between them.

‘For some reason Harrison told Adam that I got a girl’s number. I don’t know what his intentions were for saying that,’ he told Sandy. ‘It’s not the truth.’

On-set sources have since disputed this, revealing Dan’s constant protestations of innocence earned him the nickname ‘Denial Dan’ among the cast.

Sandy reportedly ‘didn’t believe him’ and was ‘deeply hurt’ by the revelations.

Married At First Sight continues on Sunday at 7pm on Channel Nine
