Hidden detail in Queen Mary and King Frederik’s latest outing divides fans: ‘It’s so calculated’

Royal watchers have gushed over Queen Mary and King Frederik of Denmark’s choice to ‘dress to match’ during their visit to the Baltic Sea island of Ærø.

Many experts have claimed the royal couple’s matching brown pants, beige blazers and collared shirts represent their unity and closeness after a year plagued by rumours of marriage woes.

But others claim it’s nothing but a ‘clever trick’ – a staged performance to look closer than ever while things a still tense behind closed doors.

Historian and royal house expert Sebastian Olden-Jørgensen said when it comes to the current King and Queen ‘nothing is accidental’. Especially when it comes to their wardrobe choices.

‘It shows that they act as a couple and are a couple,’ he told Danish news B.T, adding that it’s an act of ‘togetherness’.

Historian and royal house expert Lars Hovbakke Sørensen agreed.

‘There is no doubt that it fits very well with their brand, which is very much about appearing as a couple – as a royal couple and not that it is only the King who is highlighted all the time,’ he said.

Aussie body language expert Dr Louise Mahler described the couple as ‘magnificent’ for their ability to ‘show up’ time and time again.

‘How they turn up again and again meeting and greeting the public and portraying an everlasting love story is a miracle,’ she said.

She also commended them on their ‘costume’ changes.

‘Their matching clothes are an art work created by their entourage and they in turn provide the paint to complete a captivating tale,’ Dr Louise said.

‘Sometimes, as in these photos there is not a vibration between them, but at the same time there is no disconnection. Eyes may not meet eyes, but then eyes do not always meet eyes.

‘They are facing the challenge together with professionalism and joy. For the moment at least it seems it is business as usual for the Danish royal couple.’

The couple changed their wardrobe a few times during their visit to the island. They had photos taken for their Instagram in one of the outfits which featured the Queen in the same white collard shirt, but with a long light brown skirt and matching hat.

The King wore a dark suit and tie.

In one of the photos the couple appeared to be gazing into each other’s eyes – but on closer inspection the King is looking right over his wife’s head.

The pictures had their fans torn.

‘They are completely comfortable together,’ one said.

‘The first pictures look completely like something from the Romance in the 18s,’ said another.

But not everyone agreed.

‘Would be cuter if he was even looking at her,’ one woman said.
