I made £18,000 selling a ‘dated’ Cheshire three-bed home I bought at auction for £215,000

A woman has revealed how she’s made £18,000 after selling a ‘dated’ Cheshire home she bought at auction – despite only tidying up the garden and removing the furniture.

Mother-of-five Nikki appeared on BBC’s Homes Under the Hammer on Tuesday night after purchasing her three-bed semi-detached property in Crewe, for £215,000.

Described by presenter Jacqui Joseph as ‘very, very dated’, the house included old-fashioned décor and furniture, as well as a ‘quirky’ and ‘unusual’ layout.

Nikki had initially shared her desire to transform the entire home with her youngest son Archie – but she soon decided to place the property back on the market after limited renovations, according to Manchester Evening News.

She spent just £2,000 on tidying up the garden and clearing out all the furniture – and yet, she sold the house for £235,000, leaving her with a profit of £18,000.

The mother donated the furniture that she cleared out to a formerly-homeless woman moving into her first flat.

Nikki and her son had plenty of ideas when first buying the home, including changing the layout, making the kitchen bigger, and renovating the décor.

She also wanted to add in an extension over the garage to create another bedroom and bathroom.

With a budget of £40,000, Nikki was aiming to complete the renovations in six months.

However, when the parent was visited by the programme four months later, she revealed she was too busy to transform the property and was instead going to sell it.

She sold it for £235,000, £20,000 more than what she paid for it – and making her a profit of £18,000 after taking into account the £2,000 she spent on tidying up the garden and clearing the home of furniture.

Nikki said: ‘It just goes to show, with very little spend, if you buy in the right location, good schools, local amenities, buy at the right price, there is still money to be made on houses, even if you do nothing to them.’

She continued: ‘I’m always looking for properties for sale, I’m always looking at the auction sites. So hopefully I will find another little one very shortly.’

Nikki continues to buy and renovate houses after building her own home when she was just 18. By the time her eldest child was 12, she had already lived in 12 different properties.

The mother-of-five worked full time, but had recently resigned to try and work full time in property.
