Inside Brisbane’s ‘Southside’ gang – two teenage members charged with ‘mowing down policeman’

Two teenagers who allegedly stole a car and left a policeman fighting for his life after mowing him down have been linked to a violent youth gang.

Members of the teenage gang, named ‘Southside’ or ‘4114’ after the suburb Logan in Brisbane’s outer suburbs, frequently boast about their illegal activities online.

Photos circulating social media using the ‘Southside’ banner include hard-faced kids posing next to stacks of money and piles of illicit drugs.

The group often caption their photos ‘FTP’, meaning ‘f*** the police’.

According to Channel 9, two Southside gang members are allegedly responsible for hitting Constable Peter McAulay in a stolen car, leaving him with critical injuries.

The 24-year-old officer was attempting to intercept the car by laying traffic spikes when he was hit, suffering serious head injuries and broken bones and fractures.

Constable McAulay woke from a coma at Princess Alexandra Hospital on Monday after he was hit by the stolen car in Ipswich, southwest of Brisbane, on Thursday.

A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl have both been charged with one count each of attempted murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

According to reports, both teenagers are ‘known associates’ of the Southside gang.

The gang uses social media to boast about their crimes, posing in happy snaps with pills, money and stolen vehicles.

In their words, they’re ‘keeping coppers busy’, and are attempting to stay out of jail.

A known member of the gang, Jay Jay Rice, passed away in July after he took a stolen car for a joy ride on the wrong side of the road.

The gang member smashed into a vehicle, killing himself and two others in the process.

Members are generally aged between 14 and 18-years-old, with many being involved with police frequently.

Channel 7 also reported on a rival juvenile group, the Northside side, who have also posted to social media boasting about their crimes.

‘If we wanted to, we could target every house on the northside (of Brisbane) in a day,’ one of the members said.

The Northside gang has been terrorising Brisbane’s north for three years, posting stolen cars and videos of them breaking into homes online.

There are up to 50 members in the youth group, racking up more than 1000 charges since 2015.
