Inside the award-winning Blue Mountains retreat sold for just $3million by filmmaker Alex Proyas

Australian filmmaker Alex Proyas is known for his visually stunning Hollywood movies, including The Crow, Gods of Egypt and I, Robot.

And it appears the director also has an eye for property, as Domain reported on Saturday that he recently sold his stunning Blue Mountains rural retreat, Invisible House.

Built on the western slopes of the Blue Mountains, the picturesque, four-bedroom home offers breathtaking views of the Megalong Valley and features a number of unique urban design features.

Hollywood luxury Down Under! Inside the stunning Blue Mountains retreat sold for just $3million by film director Alex Proyas after it was named the ‘Australian House of the Year’

Constructed over a period of three years using concrete, Mudgee stacked stone, steel and hoop pine building materials, Alex commissioned the property after purchasing the 65 hectare site in 2005 for $760,000.

Designed by acclaimed architect Peter Stutchbury, Invisible House was named the Australian House of the Year in 2014 and shortlisted for the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects International Prize in 2016.

However, it appears that the $3million sale price was a bargain as Invisible House was only recently listed for $4.8million – which itself was a steep drop from the $9million listing from two years ago.

The concrete pillars and glass doors support a high, plywood-lined roof that adds to the expansiveness of the main room.

The space is complemented by a fireplace that injects a touch of warmth and homeliness.

Blending in seamlessly is the Mudgee stacked stone kitchen, which also features a concrete and steel island.

Large sliding doors are in place, giving occupants a generous view of the mountains and also plenty of sunlight.

The bathrooms are lined with stacked stone, while the marble bathtubs provide a touch of Hollywood luxury.
