An Italian soldier was stabbed in the throat with scissors by a man who shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ as he was arrested, it was reported on Tuesday. 

The unprovoked attack, which took place on the busy Piazza Duca d’Aosta in Milan, happened shortly after 10:45am this morning, Milano Today said.

An attacker reportedly stabbed the soldier, 34, in the neck and shoulder with a pair of scissors before fleeing towards Via Vittor Pisani.

He was then stopped by paramilitary Carabinieri police officers, and was said to have shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ – which translates to ‘God is great – as he was arrested, the publication reported.

The solider was taken to Fatebenefratelli Hospital where he was treated for a ‘deep’ stab wound and non-life-threatening injuries.

The 34-year-old, who belongs to the Fifth Alpine Regiment of the Julia Brigade, was conscious when he arrived at the hospital, the report confirmed.

An investigation has now reportedly been launched to determine whether or not the attacker had ‘links to terrorism’.
