Ivanka Trump heads to Japan to speak at summit

The president’s daughter will deliver a speech to the World Assembly for Women next week in Tokyo two days before her father’s arrival in Japan for meeting government meetings.

A White House official told DailyMail.com that Ivanka Trump had accepted an invitation from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to deliver remarks at the summit on November 3.

Trump, a senior White House adviser herself, will talk about women’s participation in the economy and women’s entrepreneurship, the official said.

President Donald Trump and the rest the U.S. delegation will land in Tokyo next Sunday. The U.S. president will hold talks with the Japanese government, and he’s likely to go for a round of golf with Abe before he leaves town.

The 12-day trip will have President Trump hopscotching across Southeast Asia from Japan to South Korea to China to Vietnam and the Philippines. The official could not say whether Ivanka would be accompanying him past Tokyo.

Ivanka and husband Jared Kushner, also an aide to the president, accompanied President Trump on two previous foreign trips. They broke off partway through the first one to enjoy an extra evening in Rome before they returned to Washington.

At a meeting of the G20 several weeks later, Ivanka filled in for her father at an official function while he stepped out for a private meeting with another world leader.

The officials were discussing a World Bank initiative to promote women’s entrepreneurship – an issue Ivanka is heavily invested in – when the Trump daughter took a seat between Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Earlier in the day, she was a panelist at a symposium where her father announced a $50 million contribution on behalf of the United States to the fund.

World Bank President President Jim Yong Kim credited at the event as the impetus for the women’s entrepreneurship initiative.

Ivanka’s promotion to the head table alongside elected leaders led to some grumbling at the conference. Host Angela Merkel publicly came to the White House official’s defense.

Merkel said it’s not unusual for a government representative to step up when a head of state is detained with other business.

‘Ivanka Trump was part and parcel of the American delegation, so that is something that other delegations also do. It’s very well known that she works at the White House and is also engaged in certain initiatives,’ the German leader stated.

The first daughter and Merkel had become well acquainted by that time, having participated in a W-20 summit for women in Berlin some two months prior.

It was Merkel who extended the invitation to Ivanka to come to Berlin in the first place. They’d hit it off during Merkel’s visit in March to the White House.

The trip to Germany to speak on women in the workforce and apprenticeships was Ivanka’s first solo foreign trip representing her father’s White House.

She’s going to Hyderabad, India at the end of November as the U.S. face of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit.

Trump has been ramping up her appearances on behalf of the administration domestically, too.

She vouched for her father’s tax plan at a Bucks County, Pennsylvania, town hall on Monday, followed by an appearance on Hannity that evening.

Today she’s headed to Capitol Hill.
