Jamie Carragher SLAMS Liverpool after they conceded two before half-time at Brentford

‘It looks like an ageing team coming to an end – that was SHAMBOLIC’: Jamie Carragher SLAMS Liverpool after they conceded two before half-time during 3-1 defeat at Brentford… as Gary Neville calls for a ‘change of plan’ from Jurgen Klopp’s high line

Jamie Carragher has hit out at Liverpool’s defending after they lost 3-1 to Brentford in their Premier League clash.

The home side took the lead after bundling in a corner in the 39th minute, with Ibrahim Konate getting the last touch as the reds struggled to deal with Brentford’s aggression. Yoane Wissa doubled the lead before the break with an excellent header that Allison couldn’t quite claw out.

Liverpool pulled one back thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Bryan Mbeumo put the game to bed with a third Bees goal late on.

Carragher slammed his former side’s defending, calling them ‘absolutely shambolic’ and commenting on Sky Sports: ‘It’s the first time they’ve conceded from a corner this season but far from the first time they’ve conceded from a counter attack, which is where the corner came from.

‘They’ve given themselves so much to do so often. Liverpool have had problems all season against teams that have intensity and aggression. It looks like an ageing team coming to an end, and that was shambolic.’

He added that Liverpool were ‘not at the races’ against an energetic and well-supported Brentford.

For Gary Neville, the first half was yet another example of Liverpool’s poor defending this season. He said: ‘Sometimes you look at a team taking a corner and it just looks dangerous, they just all miss it. It looked dangerous with all those players at the near post.

‘It had seemed so easy for [Liverpool] at the back in the last few years, but now gaps are opening up. We’ve watched this high line for five years and its been superb, but this is happening far too often now, we might be headed towards a change of plan from Jurgen Klopp.’

Klopp’s side have now conceded in each of their last eight Premier League games, and their hopes of Champions League qualification hang by a thread.

Micah Richards agreed with the pair, as he said at half time: ‘Liverpool held that ridiculously high line and Brentford exploited it. There’s no organisation. No one knows what they’re doing. I’ve been flabbergasted by Liverpool, there’s been no concentration.’
