Jennifer Lopez donates $1 million to Puerto Rico

She has always been proud of her Puerto Rican heritage.

And on Sunday, Jennifer Lopez announced a generous donation of $1 million to provide the island of Puerto Rico Hurricane relief efforts.

The singer, 48, showed her love and support for her family’s native country as she spoke alongside New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Good deed: Jennifer Lopez announced her generous donation of $1 million to provide the island of Puerto Rico Hurricane relief efforts

Jennifer took a break from her Las Vegas residency to make the announcement in The Big Apple.

‘What’s foremost in my mind and many others, is trying to figure out the best way to help,’ she said in a statement.

‘Our island of Puerto Rico has been hit by the two most devastating hurricanes we’ve ever seen Irma and Maria. Today, Puerto Rico needs our help. I urge you to support and donate to the efforts of the first lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rossello.’

The Shades Of Blue star encouraged the public to do their part to donate whatever they can.

She ended: ‘Together we can help rebuild our island and the Caribbean.’

The mother-of-two shared the stage with a small sample of the food and water being shipped out to the island.

The star also reached out to fans using her Instagram, pleading anyone to help out.

JLo previously revealed in a heartfelt video that she still hasn’t heard from her family living on the U.S. territory.

‘Me and my cousins still haven’t been able to hear from our families over there.’

While Jlo made her announcement on Sunday, New York Governor also added his plea in getting the public to do their part as well.

He said: ‘Yesterday we saw an entire island of Americans without power. We will help our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters rebuild.’

Authorities say the island may be without power for at least four months following Hurricane Maria, which hit the U.S. territory with 155 mph (249 kph) winds, the strongest hurricane in over 80 years.

The island was already battered by Hurricane Irma, which hit days earlier.
