Police launch murder probe in Jersey after woman, 68, was fatally stabbed in the neck in her own home as armed officers arrest man, 40, who knew the victim

Police launched a probe into the murder of a pensioner from a fatal ‘stab wound to the neck’.

Pamela Margaret Nisbet, 68, died after she was stabbed at her home on Les Grupieaux in St Peter, Jersey on Tuesday.

An ambulance was called to her home following reports of a stabbing, she was rushed to Jersey’s General Hospital but died later that evening.  

The home is currently under lock-down as forensics continue to examine the property.

A Home Office pathologist confirmed Mrs Nesbit’s cause of death to be ‘a stab wound to the neck,’ the Bailiwick Express reported.

Police have arrested a 40-year-old man, who was known to the victim, and is being held on suspicion of murder.  

States police confirmed no one else was currently being sought in connection with the case.

The force said in a statement: ‘A murder investigation has been launched and the scene secured, with both SoJP and St Peter’s Honorary Police in attendance.

‘The suspect – who is held on suspicion of murder – and victim were known to each other and nobody else is sought in relation to this incident. The victim’s family are aware.’

She is survived by her husband Dr Patric Nisbet.

Mrs Nisbet is being remembered as a community oriented woman who was a special-needs teacher and cared about Island life.

Parish Constable Richard Vibert told the Jersey Evening Post: ‘She was tenacious but a lovely, lovely lady who will be sorely missed.’  

He added: ‘[She was] passionate about her parish, parochial matters and Island life’ and would be a great loss to St Peter.’

Mrs Nesbit was also a dedicated honorary police officer. 

Former St Peter Constables Tom du Feu said: ‘She was a very confident lady who gave her all to everything she was involved in and played a very important role in the parish as Centenier. She gave 100 per cent to her parish and the Island.’
