Jets quarterback Zach Wilson says he deleted all social media apps from his phone

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson reveals he deleted ALL social media apps from his phone, after his ex-girlfriend accused him of sleeping with his mom’s best friend to spark a huge online backlash

  • Zach Wilson said he is limiting himself to ‘the voices I really need to hear’
  • He was accused last month by his ex of sleeping with his mom’s best friend
  • The Jets QB is hoping for an improved sophomore year after rookie struggles

Zach Wilson revealed Tuesday that he has rid his phone of all social media apps as the Jets prepare for their first preseason game next week on August 12.

While Wilson says he has done this since his college days at BYU, his update comes with the backdrop of an unsavory rumor recently being spread about him.

Wilson’s ex-girlfriend, Abbey Gile, last month accused the quarterback of sleeping with his mom’s best friend, setting off a wave of memes, opinions and ultimately noise surrounding him.

Whether or not Wilson even saw those rumors, it seems like he’s reaping the benefits of going offline.

‘It’s a great way to disconnect and my mind is 100% here, focused on what it’s supposed to be focused on,’ he said after practice Tuesday according to ESPN. ‘I’m spending time with what my coaches are saying in the meeting room rather than everybody else.’

Gile’s accusation came after Washington Commanders wide receiver Dax Milne – Wilson’s former college roommate – appeared to reveal a relationship with her on Instagram.

When someone commented that Gile was a ‘homie hopper’, she deflected the insult onto the Jets QB.

‘[Wilson] was sleeping with his mom’s best friend … that’s the real homie hopper,’ she wrote in a now-deleted comment.

Regardless of his motivations, Wilson’s move to delete social media seems like a savvy decision from the 23-year-old, who struggled throughout his rookie season and plays for one of the most long-suffering franchises in the sport.

The quarterback said Tuesday he’s merely interested in hearing what his coaches and teammates have to say rather than any critics.

‘When it comes down to reading things, I don’t ever get into that stuff,’ he said. ‘I don’t ever just scroll down social media.’

Wilson will hope to improve on a difficult rookie year which saw him throw just nine touchdowns to 11 interceptions in 13 games.

He’ll begin his season vs. the Ravens on September 11.
