While he may still miss their next game, Jimmy Garoppolo is set to recover quicker than expected for the Las Vegas Raiders after being rushed to hospital during Sunday’s win over the New England Patriots.

Garoppolo left the game in the latter stages of the first half at Allegiant Stadium and cut a frustrated figure before being taken to hospital in an ambulance. It was later reported that the Las Vegas quarterback had suffered a back injury.

Yet in a positive update for the Raiders, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has revealed the injury is ‘not as significant’ as first feared.

Garoppolo could still be ruled out for next weekend’s game at the Chicago Bears, but he is unlikely to spend an extended period on the sidelines.

When the team’s QB1 left the field, the Raiders were ahead 13-3 against the Patriots as they looked to turn their losing record into a .500 in Week 6 of the NFL season.

Garoppolo was 14 of 22 for 162 yards, a touchdown to Jakobi Meyers and an interception in the first half.

He was replaced on the day by Brian Hoyer, a 14-year veteran of the NFL who will be hoping for the chance to show what he’s still got against the Bears next Sunday.

Hoyer spent the last three seasons in New England, playing a total of seven games under Bill Belichick.

The Raiders travel to Chicago to face the struggling Bears, who slumped to their fifth defeat in six games against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Las Vegas, meanwhile, has now recorded two straight victories after following up their Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos were three consecutive defeats.
