Former AFL champion Josh Gibson has spoken publicly for the first time since splitting with his partner of nearly two years, Olga Kononchuk. 

The 35-year-old stepped out solo at the Piper-Heidscieck Australian Open Launch in Melbourne on Friday. 

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Josh revealed his plans for 2020 after splitting with the mother-of-two over the Christmas period.

‘I’m really focusing on putting my head down over the next few months,’ Josh said.

The Hawthorn premiership star added: ‘I’m excited for the tennis, Melbourne do events the best… I’m excited for the year ahead.’

It comes after Josh broke up with his Russian girlfriend, who is still on the mend after a boating accident left her with spinal injuries.

The footballer split with Olga after the pair had been dating for almost two years. 

The Herald Sun reported the couple split shortly before Christmas, with Gibson stripping his social media and deleting all photos of the pair.

She remains on the long road to recovery after sustaining serious spinal injuries in a boating accident in November 2018.

The couple had only been together five months when Olga was rushed to hospital after a boat crash.

They were celebrating Stakes Day with friends at Port Phillip Bay in Victoria on November 17, 2018.

The fall caused damage to vertebrae in her lower back. 

The former couple were spotted together at numerous public events lat last year, including the Victoria Derby and Melbourne Cup.
