A prolapsed disc – or slipped disc – is when a soft cushion of tissue between the bones in your spine pushes out.

It can cause lower back pain, numbness or tingling in the shoulders, back, arms, hands, legs or feet, neck pain and problems bending or straigtening your back.

Surgery is not usually needed but a GP may refer someone for surgery if the symptoms don’t improve.
