Kate Middleton latest news: Princess WILL attend Trooping the Colour after cancer diagnosis as Royal give update on health battle in moving new statement

It is something William will no doubt welcome after having to mask his personal pain and reassure the public she is ‘doing well’ for several weeks.

The Prince of Wales initially postponed engagements to look after Kate but returned to duties on April 18.

Since then he has been the sole face of his family at public engagements.

The Princess of Wales has endured an extremely tough year so far, with her return to the public eye coming four months after she began chemotherapy treatment.

Kate was diagnosed with cancer in February and has been resting at home in Windsor with the help of her husband Prince William and the Middleton family.

The mother-of-three appealed for time, space and privacy for her family when she revealed on March 22 that she was being treated for an undisclosed form of cancer.

This is the story of how the Princess is recovering away from the private eye.

Kate, 42, will be on hand to ensure George, 10, Charlotte, nine, and Louis, six, enjoy the family day out to celebrate their grandfather’s birthday – and her presence means they won’t have to travel in the carriage procession without one of their parents.

Their mother’s presence will also be reassuring for the youngsters as they watch the fly-past from the Buckingham Palace balcony – where Prince Louis famously covered his ears to block out the noise in 2022.

While the day is centred around marking the official birthday of the British Sovereign and the display of military precision, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ children usually steal the show with their playful antics.

Last year, he was particularly expressive on the Buckingham Palace balcony, pulling faces and playing up to the camera.

Despite more than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, 400 musicians and a flyover of 70 aircraft, Louis was the star of the historic day.

The prime minister Rishi Sunak has wished the Princess of Wales well on social meda.

Sources have suggested that as the Princess herself said in her message, she enjoys spending personal time on the things that give her energy and positivity and connecting with nature is something that continue to support her recovery.

It is thought that the Princess chose to dip back into the public spotlight for her first public appearance at Trooping because family is so important to her and she wanted to be there to support husband and children.

Her return to work is considered one of the first steps to regaining her strength.

While her attendance at Trooping the Colour will undoubtedly be a ‘significant moment’, it has been strongly stressed that it should not be seen as a return to a full schedule of public engagements.

As Kensington Palace said in March, the Princess may be keen to attend events over the course of the summer, as and when she feels able to, with the support and guidance of her medical team.

Any future engagements will be announced closer to the time, although the Mail understands that Kate will not be present at Monday’s Order of the Garter ceremony or Royal Ascot next week.

However it is understood that the Princess is feeling well enough to start working from home a little and has been holding meetings at Windsor.

With Kate’s bombshell announcement that she will be attending tomorrow’s Trooping the Colour, we can now give a few more details about what will happen.

• The Princess will travel with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis in a state carriage down the Mall and watch the parade from the Major General’s Office with the rest of the royal family.
• It is also hoped that she will later appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with the rest of the family, although she may have to see how she feels on the day and plans may yet be amended.
• The Princess is and remains the Colonel of the Irish Guards but under the circumstances, Lieutenant General James Bucknall is taking the salute on her behalf.
• Prince William will be on horseback during the parade as he has been in previous years.
• The parade will be broadcast live on the BBC from 10.30am until 1.10pm.

After the official Kensington Royal Twitter/X account posted the news at 6pm, thousands of social media well-wishers liked the post and responded to Kate.

A spokesman said King Charles is ‘delighted’ that she will be attend Trooping the Colour on Saturday.

He said: ‘His Majesty is delighted that the princess is able to attend tomorrow’s events, and is much looking forward to all elements of the day.’

To mark the news Kensington Palace have also released a stunning new portrait of the princess taken at Windsor this week by Matt Porteous showing her looking well and in a reflective mood.

It was taken by Mr Porteous, a favourite private photographer of the couple, on the Windsor estate earlier this week.

It shows Kate in casual wear – jeans, a beige linen blazer and trainers, with her wedding and engagement rings on show staring wistfully but with an air of positivity into the distance.

‘I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months.

‘It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times.

‘I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days.

‘On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.

‘My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.

‘I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.

‘I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.

‘Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.’

While she will not be returning to public duties full time, she does now feel well enough, however, to undertake a small number of public engagements in the coming months.

The Princess of Wales will attend Trooping the Colour in London on Saturday and said she ‘hopes to join a few public engagements over the summer’ as she continues treatment for cancer ‘for a few more months’.

has ‘good days and bad days’, adding: ‘I am not out of the woods yet’
