Katie Couric took to social media to announced the birth of her first grandchild on Sunday.
The 67-year-old distinguished journalist — who announced her daughter Ellie, 32, was expecting with husband Mark Dobrosky back in December — used Instagram and her website to share the happy news.
Couric wrote in a caption to her 1.7 million followers, ‘John Albert Dobrosky was born on his due date, Saturday, March 23rd at 8:23 am, just shy of seven pounds.’
On the photo-sharing app, she uploaded a photo of the newborn in her arms as she posed with her mouth agape, mimicking him as he yawned adorably.
The sweet note continued, ‘He will be called Jay in honor of his maternal grandfather. Albert is after Mark’s paternal grandfather.’

John ‘Jay’ Monahan is Ellie’s father and Couric’s first husband who died in 1998 from colon cancer.
They had been married for nine years at the time of his death.
Katie wrote about her daughter and son-in-law: ‘Mom and Dad (Ellie and Mark) are over the moon (it was a full moon).’
She said about herself, ‘I am thrilled to have my first grandchild,’ and she noted about her younger daughter Carrie, 28, that she ‘can’t wait to be a cool Aunt.’
Finally, she said about her 61-year-old financier husband John Molner: ‘[He] is enjoying handing out cigars.’
Speaking on behalf of her family, she added, ‘We feel so blessed.’
To close out the caption, the longtime television host wrote, ‘We’ll have more tomorrow in Wake-Up Call.’
Couric made sure to show her appreciation for hospital staff as she wrote across a photo of her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson: ‘Thank you to the wonderful nurses at @providencecalifornia.’

Ellie tied the knot with husband Mark on July 4, 2021.
It was Katie’s late husband’s battle with cancer — which took his life when he was 42— that inspired her efforts to increase colon cancer screenings.
Katie married Molner in 2014, two years after they met on a blind date.
