Kyle Sandilands’ extraordinary spray at radio bosses after his ratings triumph

A furious Kyle Sandilands unleashed on his own radio station in an eight-minute rant on Thursday after what he perceived as a snub by the company’s publicity team.

Sandilands, 51, was angry over the lack of press coverage of The Kyle and Jackie O Show’s historic ratings triumph this week, which saw the KIIS 106.5 breakfast program record its biggest-ever audience in Sydney.

Media outlets glossed over this fact and instead focused on 2GB host Ben Fordham’s market-leading audience share. This is because radio ratings are typically reported in terms of percentage share rather than overall audience numbers.

Sandilands said the PR department at KIIS FM’s parent company ARN should have fired off a press release emphasising his show’s ratings milestone, labelling them ‘losers’, ‘flops’ and ‘absolute a**eholes’ for the apparent oversight.

He took aim at an external public relations company hired by ARN to handle media relations, but Daily Mail Australia understands PR for survey results is actually handled internally by ARN.

Furthermore, The Kyle and Jackie O Show’s ratings milestone was in fact highlighted in a press release put out by ARN after the latest GfK ratings survey.

The release included survey highlights for other ARN stations, including WSFM.

‘I am sick and tired of working here,’ Sandilands snapped live on air.

‘Everyone is a loser, except for everyone on this show. Everyone else outside of this show is a massive loser. I am not joking.’

He added: ‘They have got no idea. This whole station couldn’t pull a root in a brothel with a wheelbarrow full of money and a grin. They wouldn’t know, they wouldn’t get laid. They are too dumb. Imbeciles.

‘I am sick and tired of this joint hiring idiots to run things and then it takes them a year to find out that guy is a d**khead and he should be fired. Get rid of the flops. I should be running this whole joint.’

It comes after The Kyle and Jackie O Show hit an ‘astounding’ ratings milestone.

The long-running breakfast radio show recorded its highest-ever number of listeners in Sydney, the most recent survey results reveal.

Sandilands and co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson reached more Sydneysiders than ever during the latest ratings period than at any point in their 30-year career.

The show was lifted by stellar coverage of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, plus the popular ‘guess the voice’ competition Cash, Cars and Stars.

Kyle and Jackie O has notably bucked the trend of radio ratings going downhill as more young people turn to podcasts for content.

Not only has the program consistently grown its live radio audience, particularly in the 25-54 demographic, but its catch-up podcast is No. 1 in Australia.

ARN’s chief content officer Duncan Campbell said: ‘Kyle and Jackie O is a powerhouse of a show that keeps on growing.

‘To be the No. 1 FM Sydney breakfast show for 30 consecutive surveys, and achieve a record breaking cume [cumulative audience], is an incredible achievement and highlights the enduring and powerful connection Kyle, Jackie and the entire team have with their audience.

‘This show is as topical and relevant today as it was 30 surveys ago, and we thank the loyal listeners for their continued support.’

The news comes as Kyle and Jackie O’s executive producer Sonia Jahshan prepares to leave the show to join the team at Channel Seven’s Sunrise.

Ms Jahshan, better known to KIIS FM listeners by her on-air nickname ‘Palestine’, announced the news earlier this month via LinkedIn.

‘A forever goal has been to pursue my passion for television and later this year, I am excited to announce that I will commencing a new role as Senior Producer for Sunrise [on] Channel Seven,’ Ms Jahshan wrote.

Confirming her departure was amicable, Ms Jahshan thanked Sandilands and Henderson for their support over the past five years.

Jahshan will depart KIIS FM at the end of the year, an ARN spokesperson confirmed to Daily Mail Australia on Thursday.

‘I would like to thank her enormously for her contribution, dedication and passion, and wish her the very best in her next adventure,’ said Derek Bargwanna, the Head of KIIS Network.

‘Sonia’s departure has opened up a rare opportunity to join Australia’s biggest and most successful radio show, and a global search is now underway to find a new executive producer to join Kyle, Jackie and the KIIS team in 2023,’ he added.

Ms Jahshan joined ARN in January 2017 as a senior producer.

She worked her way up the ranks and was named executive producer in January 2019, following the departure of Bruno Bouchet.
