Larry Emdur describes sitting by Grant Denyer’s side in hospital

Larry Emdur has revealed how he sat by Grant Denyer’s side while the TV host was hospitalised after breaking his back in 2008.

Appearing on the It’s All True? podcast alongside Grant and his wife Chezzi Denyer, where the Morning Show host was thanked for his help during that trying time.

‘When Grant broke his back, you came and sat next to him. I don’t know if you ever realised the impact that had on Grant,’ Chezzi said.

‘You would come and sit with Grant, he was as high as a kite and telling all sorts of stories and he always felt much better after you came and sat next to him, and you told him a lot of times he was going to be alright.’ 

Larry replied: ‘We’re a small club. It’s a small club. There’s not many people who do what we do. There’s not many of us. We can all fit in one plane to go to the Logies. 

‘I remember that Grant, very well. I remember how it impacted all of us. You’re one of the most loved in the business. It was horrible. Gosh,’ he continued.

Grant profusely thanked Larry for being by his side, saying that others had ‘run away’ in the face of the tragedy.  

‘Thank you, you have a huge heart,’ an emotional Grant said.

Chezzi also thanked the breakfast television host for staying with Grant at the hospital so she could go home and shower.  

Over the years, Grant and Chezzi have faced many challenges to their marriage.

Denyer previously spoke about his painkiller addiction during a discussion with his campmates on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! 

He explained he’d once pelted eggs at his wife Chezzi when he was hungry during his recovery.

‘I decided to crash off it which was… when I went missing…’ he told Abbie Chatfield, Alli Simpson and Toni Pearen.

‘Mate, I pelted eggs at her [Chezzi] one night. I cracked it for some reason. I was hungry and was in pain and was confused and I just started throwing eggs at her.

‘She doesn’t deserve this, but you just can’t stop.’

The pair married in 2010 and have three daughters together; Sailor, 10, and Scout, six, and welcomed baby girl Sunday, who is now one, in February last year. All pictured
