Leigh Sales reveals the job she’ll NEVER do on Australian television

Leigh Sales has revealed which job she would never take in Australian media following her shock resignation from ABC’s 7.30. 

Speaking to Stellar magazine, the respected news journalist, 49, said she wouldn’t take on a job in breakfast television as she doesn’t like presenting live. 

‘I don’t like doing live, rolling, unscripted television. Well, that means I’m never going to host a breakfast television show – that rules me out forever for that,’ she said. 

Leigh said she has six months long-service before she moves to a new role. 

‘I need a break to have some time to figure it out but I love working at the ABC and I know that whatever I do next here, it will be interesting and meaningful,’ she added. 

On the topic of job hunting, Leigh said she’s going to make a list of what she likes about journalism, and will then pair these points with possible jobs.

It comes as media insiders speculate about Leigh’s next move, with some even saying she could host an ‘Oprah Winfrey-style’ weekly show on the ABC. 

The 7:30 host announced she was quitting the role in February, with her final shows to air in the coming weeks.

The Australian said the wheels are already in motion for her next venture last week.

It comes as media insiders speculate about Leigh’s next move, with some even saying she could host an ‘Oprah Winfrey-style’ weekly show on the ABC. Pictured with Shane Warne 

The outlet said the esteemed journalist could be returning to the ABC’s primetime slot next year in a new show interviewing celebrities and interesting world figures.

Ms Sales, who led 7:30 for 12 years, could be looking to introduce a new show that is a ‘cross between Denton and Oprah Winfey’, The Australian’s Nick Tabakoff said.  

She said upon the announcement of stepping down that it was time she ‘passed the baton on to the next runner in the race and take a break’.

‘At the end of an election cycle feels like a good time to move on to something new at the ABC,’ she told viewers. 

‘I hope it’s been obvious that I’ve always approached this job with one goal – and that is to ask frank questions of people in power, without fear or favour, that a fair-minded, reasonable person with some common sense watching at home might like to ask if they were sitting in my position.’
