A little girl is fighting for her life after she was crushed by a falling tree.

The primary school girl along with two others were taken to hospital after a branch fell on them while leaving a church in Parkdale, Melbourne on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 12.50pm on Tuesday where all three children were rushed to The Royal Children’s Hospital to be treated for head injuries.

The principal of St John Vianney’s Primary, which is connected to the church said the wind had caused the branch to break off.

‘The children were leaving mass and one of the branches in high wind broke off,’ Principal Shane Regan told The Herald Sun.

‘It knocked three of our children and they’ve gone to hospital for observation.

‘Everyone else is fine – the kids were a bit shaken.’

This year has seen a string of deaths due to falling trees.

Mother-of-two, Allison Milner died in August this year after she was crushed by a tree in Parkville, Melbourne.

Ms Milner, an associate professor at the University of Melbourne’s School of Population Growth, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but couldn’t be saved.
