By planes, trains and automobiles, Liverpool and Tottenham fans have started the mass pilgrimage to Madrid ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final. 

The all-British showdown at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano is to attract thousands to the city over the next few days. 

And the influx has already started with a carnival atmosphere bubbling up as the first revellers settle in.

Temperatures are hovering just over the 32 degree mark and those who have arrived are embracing the holiday feel in bars and restaurants. 

Jurgen Klopp masks, half-and-half scarfs and specially made banners could all be seen among the Spurs and Liverpool supporters setting up camp. 

The stadium will hold 67,000 on Saturday but tens out thousands more are travelling to Madrid either in the hope of scavenging one or simply soaking up the atmosphere in the city.  

Tickets are not easy to come by. Category one were priced at €600 (£528), category two at €450 (£396), category three at €180 (£158) and category four at €70 (£62).

Liverpool and Tottenham were also only allocated 16,613 tickets, meaning second-hand website can flog them for astronomical prices.

There is also a large allocation of corporate tickets and business seats come in a variety of categories, ranging from ‘Deluxe Club’, which costs €3,900 (£3,440), to the ‘Silver’, which would set you back €6,900 (£6,090). 

The mad scramble to be able to watch the action from a seat at the Wanda Metropolitano aside, the fans who have made the trip are surely in for an unforgettable few days. 

Nothing can dampen the spirits of those descending on Madrid as the two Premier League sides compete for the greatest prize in European football.
