Logie Awards 2022 hangover: Stars look worse for wear after a big night out

There were some sore heads on the Gold Coast on Monday.

As the curtain closed on the 2022 TV Week Logie Awards, some of Australia’s biggest names emerged from The Star casino in the early hours of the morning looking a little worse for wear.

The tipsy stars had plenty to celebrate, of course, as television’s night of nights finally returned to the live stage after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19.

As the sun began to rise, SAS Australia stars Anna Heinrich and Simone Holtznagel were seen waiting for an Uber outside the venue next to a security guard.

At one stage, a tired-looking Anna leaned on the shoulder of ex-AFL star Barry Hall.

Meanwhile, The Block favourites Mitch Edwards and Mark McKie looked very giddy indeed as they spotted paparazzi waiting by the entrance.

In a surprising twist, the man everyone expected to be drunk the morning after the Logies was in fact sober as a judge.

Karl Stefanovic was perfectly clear-headed as he hosted Channel Nine’s Today show live from the Gold Coast from 5:30am alongside co-anchor Allison Langdon.

The 47-year-old, who missed out on winning the Gold Logie the night before, had memorably been drunk on air the day after the 2009 Logies.

He had referenced his partying ways during the ceremony by holding a packet of Panadol while on camera.

Lego Masters host Hamish won the Gold Logie for most popular personality on Australian television at TV’s night of nights on the Gold Coast.

In his acceptance speech just before midnight on Sunday, the Nine Network star acknowledged the industry had been through some tough times of late.

‘We’re so grateful to get to do what we do… we’re super lucky to get to keep working,’ he said.

Blake climbed onstage to accept three Logies, with Lego Masters winning its first ever award for most outstanding entertainment or comedy program.

‘It’s really fun to actually just make something that’s about creativity and joy,’ Blake said, as he thanked his co-host Ryan McNaught and Lego Masters crew.

‘It’s like there are thousands and thousands of little pieces that come together to make the show.’

Hamish also took home the Logie for most popular presenter, newly named for the late television superstar Bert Newton and presented by Newton’s wife Patti.

ABC’s The Newsreader took home two Logies, winning most outstanding drama series, and star Anna Torv winning most outstanding actress.

Another of its scripted dramas, Fires, won the miniseries category, with Richard Roxburgh winning most outstanding actor.

It was also a big night for the Seven Network, with sports presenter Bruce McAvaney inducted into the TV Week Hall of Fame, to a standing ovation.

The ABC’s Tony Armstrong took out the Graham Kennedy Award for most popular new talent, days after his euphoric on screen reaction to the Socceroos making it through to the World Cup.
