London’s supercar season is now truly underway, with a crystal-encrusted £270,000 Lamborghini Aventador, £280,000 Rolls-Royce Dawn and a £140,000 Porsche 911 GT3 among the stunning motors on display.
But the most valuable car spotted over the weekend on the streets of Knightsbridge was a rare 261mph Bugatti Cheyron worth an eye-watering £2.5million – one of only 500 made by the French manufacturer.
There were Aventadors aplenty on display, including the Swarovski crystal-encrusted model owned by Russian model Daria Radionova, which took 700 man hours over two months to apply two million of the crystals.
The 26-year-old, who studied business management in London and now customises fur and leather products for wealthy clients, has previously had a Lamborghini Huracan and Mercedes CLS adapted in similar fashion.
The DAR 11A Aventador owned by Miss Radionova, who lives in Knightsbridge and has hundreds of pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes at home, is one of just 600 Superveloce versions made of the V12 model.
Speaking in 2014, Miss Radionova, who has more than 150,000 followers on Instagram, said: ‘I have a lot of jewellery – diamonds are a girl’s best friend. I have them everywhere. I’d like to encrust everything in crystal.’
London’s most exclusive streets are now a showcase for the world’s top supercars each summer, but residents have complained in recent years about the huge noise created by the millionaires driving them around the area.
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is now urging the Government to install ‘acoustic cameras’ to identify and deter drivers, many of whom are from the Middle East and import cars with foreign numberplates.
The council has handed out 148 fines of up to £1,000 to noisy motorists over the past four years, but this has not deterred the wealthy owners – and local councillors say the situation in Knightsbridge is reaching ‘crisis point’.
