Luis D Ortiz of Million Dollar Listing says depression is so bad he has thought about ending it

He decided to quit the world of real estate back in 2016 to pursue a happier life.

But Luis D Ortiz of Million Dollar Listing revealed on Saturday that he has not been able to find that happiness he was looking for as he took to Instagram to reveal his ongoing struggle with severe depression.

The 31-year-old former real estate agent delivered his message via six slides on the social media service. ‘I have been wanting to share this for some time now but have been very reluctant to do so for the very same reasons most of us choose to keep our truths in the dark,’ wrote the Puerto Rico native.

Ortiz co-starred as in the second season of the Bravo reality television series Million Dollar Listing New York alongside Fredrik Eklund and Ryan Serhant.

He announced he was leaving during the end of season five.

Oritz went on to say that the recent high profile suicides of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade had motivated him to share some of his deepest thoughts on the subject, including a shocking revelation.

‘For the past year I have been struggling with depression and during the last three months all I can think of – day and night – is putting an end to it all,’ admitted the reality star.

A discussion of how a ‘few good friends and family’ managed to keep him afloat led to Luis asking his followers to not ‘be afraid of your truth. Be proud of it.’

The sobering essay was no doubt a surprise to friends and followers, as Luis posted a smiling photo of himself to Instagram only days before with the caption, ‘Back in New York and it feels like home.’

Indeed, his state of mind was probably also a surprise given he quit real estate back in 2016 in an attempt to be a happier person.

He told The Daily Dish at the time that his decision to quit ‘was tough because first of all, I didn’t know that was what I needed to do,’ he said. ‘I realized that it wasn’t making me happy.’

The reality star confessed that while he made a good living, he wasn’t fulfilled by his career.

‘It was a hard decision to make because then you say you have built a career that is allowing you to do so well, but yet doesn’t make you happy – so the decision has to be which one do I choose?’ he said.

Then he added, ‘So I chose happiness.’
