  • The woman works at the nursing home in Macquarie Park in Sydney’s north west
  • The nursing home carer tested positive to COVID-19 late Tuesday night
  • She could have potentially exposed dozens of elderly residents to the infection

A nursing home is in lockdown after a 50-year-old staff member contracted the deadly coronavirus disease.

The woman, who works at the nursing home in Macquarie Park in Sydney’s north west, could have potentially exposed dozens of elderly residents to the infection.

The carer tested positive to COVID-19 late Tuesday night.

She didn’t catch the disease from travelling and contracted it here in Australia from person-to-person contact.

People over the age of 80 who contract the coronavirus have a 15 per cent chance of dying from the disease.

The nursing home will now get in touch with all family members and visitors who have gone in and out of the facility in recent weeks.
