‘I was wrong’: MAFS’ Cyrell Paule apologises after accusing owner of Sydney cafe of ‘hurling racist abuse and grabbing her by the throat’ in violent brawl

Married At First Sight’s Cyrell Paule has apologised after she ‘alleged that the owner of Pelican Cafe’ in Shoal Bay, NSW, had ‘hurled racist abuse and grabbed her by the throat’ in a brawl.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the 30-year-old reality TV star wrote: ‘Around 9 June 2019 I published an Instagram post in which I stated that I had been the victim of a racist slur and physical assault.’

‘I wrongly alleged that the perpetrator of that conduct was the owner of the Pelican Cafe. I was wrong,’ she continued.

‘It was later that I found out that it was a customer of the cafe. Neither the owner of the cafe nor any of her staff had anything to do with the incident,’ she added.

She continued: ‘I understand that my Instagram post has caused serious damage to the Pelican cafe and I sincerely apologise to the owner and staff for this.’

In June, Cyrell shared a series of posts to Instagram of herself in tears as she recalled being assaulted at Pelican Cafe in what she described as an unprovoked attack.

She claimed she was called a ‘black monkey’ before having her throat grabbed by a woman.

‘So I’m a little shaken up right now because me and Eden [Dally] were just about to leave Shoal Bay, we just had lunch,’ a visibly shaken Cyrell said moments after the incident.

‘And this lady… thought it would be hilarious while I’m walking down the street to turn around and call me a ‘f***ing black…’ she said breaking down in tears.

Cyrell’s boyfriend, Love Island Australia star Eden Dally, who witnessed the attack, interjected after Cyrell began crying.

‘[The woman] called [Cyrell] a black monkey and came outside and tried to fight her so I walked in the cafe and said “what’s the need to be racist and call people black monkeys?” Then she grabbed Cyrell by the throat and pushed her and I had to defend Cyrell,’ Eden said.

‘And then they’re pushing me and filming it claiming that they’re the victims – I’m saying why [are they] coming out calling her a black monkey?… You’re a disgrace, you’re an embarrassment!’

Cyrell tearfully added: ‘At the end of the day, we’re still human beings. Shame on you all.’
