Maggie Beer’s special friend is helping her heal through her grief after the unexpected death of her daughter Saskia aged 46

Maggie Beer has revealed how fellow culinary expert Lyndey Milan helped her cope with the grief of losing her daughter Saskia in 2020, aged 46.

The celebrity chef, 78, recently enjoyed her 70th birthday with a Broadway-themed party alongside Lyndey and her husband Colin.

‘Had a fabulous night celebrating my birthday a few weeks ago with many friends and family,’ Lyndey wrote next to a happy photo of the three of them posing.

Maggie and Lyndey appear to have bonded over their mutual grief of losing a child. Milan’s son Blair died after a battle with leukemia in 2011 aged 29.

Over the past few years, they have become practically inseparable and have been spotted attending countless food and wine festivals together, reports New Idea.

Beer is also keeping herself busy with work and has a new show coming out next year, Maggie Beer’s Big Mission, in which she brings quality food to an aged care facility.

Saskia Beer, Maggie’s eldest child, unexpectedly died in her sleep in February 2020 at just 46 years of age.

Speaking to The Australian Women’s Weekly in May, Maggie recalled how she turned to her own kitchen as a place of comfort at the time.

‘I wanted to give back, and that helped me through [the grief]. ‘I did all these Cooking with Maggie videos. Just my assistant with a phone and me. For a while, I did them every day,’ she explained.

‘Nothing helps you through the rawness. Nothing. But when you’re doing something you love, that you can give to other people… It’s about having a purpose, and that purpose has helped as much as it is possible to be helped.’

Maggie, who also shares another daughter named Elli with her husband, also relied on professional counselling and the support of her family to get her through this difficult time.

‘No one wants to experience this. I badly needed help, and the help is to understand that you never get through grief, but it comes alongside you and you continue on with life, and eventually you find joy again,’ she noted.

Saskia was a chef and entrepreneur who owned a free range poultry farming business.

Her memory lives on as her family has created the Saskia Beer Churchill Fellowship.

The Fellowship helps young people interested in food and farming to foster and develop that passion.
