A magistrate’s son has been jailed for 22 months over a ‘brutal’ knife and baseball bat revenge attack on a man in a shop in a row over ‘hippy crack’.
Mahtarr Morgan, 20, was part of a group involved in the assault and struck the victim several times with the bat, leaving him fearing he was going to be killed.
The attack took place after the victim decided to no longer buy some balloons, used to inhale nitrous oxide, from Morgan.

Morgan was given a suspended sentence of 22 months at Warwick Crown Court in 2019 after robbing a schoolboy at knife point.
On that occasion, he avoided an immediate prison sentence after a judge took into account his ‘striking mitigation’ after being told that he had put his parents ‘through hell’ and his father believed his son had turned his life around.
But Judge Roderick Henderson, sitting at Birmingham Crown Court, jailed Morgan for 22 months for his latest crimes, telling him: ‘This is the fourth time you have been sentenced for possessing offensive weapons.
‘This was a brutal attack by two people armed with weapons.’
Three days before the attack, the victim had arranged to buy balloons on behalf of a friend from the defendant, the court heard.
‘His friend changed his mind and the defendant was informed and he (Morgan) did not take that well,’ said Omar Majid, prosecuting.
Morgan said he would ‘get’ the victim who, for the next few days, did his best to avoid him.
But on May 6 this year, just after midnight, the victim was walking past an address in Victoria Street, Small Heath, when he was spotted by Morgan who was with two of his friends.

He was chased and fled into a shop where he was followed by the men, including Morgan, who was armed with a baseball bat.
The man tried to run behind a till but was hit by the defendant to the front and the back of his head with the weapon.
Morgan smashed a number of items in the shop, appeared to leave, but then returned and hit the victim again.
He was also stabbed in the stomach by one of the other men. He was later taken to hospital and had stitches put in the wound.
While the attack was going on, the shopkeeper pressed a panic button and the victim told him ‘he feared the attackers were going to kill him.’
Morgan, of Lyall Grove, Solihull, had previously admitted assault and possessing an offensive weapon.
Andrew Howarth, defending, said: ‘He is an intelligent man who lives with his parents. His father is a driving instructor and his mother works for the environmental agency.
‘He has run his own business for about a year, a media services business.’
