A man with a history of sexual assault has been arrested after he allegedly struck an eight-year-old girl with a shovel, fracturing her skull, and then raped her.

Cane Madden, 29, has been charged with first degree counts of rape, assault and robbery in Louisville, Kentucky.

He was taken in for questioning at around 1am on Saturday for the alleged incident after the girl was taken from her home in California city to hospital for treatment.

She suffered a fracture to the right-side of her skull, multiple cuts and ‘significant bruising and tearing… indicative of sexual assault,’ WDRB reported.

Madden was seen in the area before and after the incident, later he acknowledged to knowing about the incident when stopped by police officers, according to authorities.

During an interview with detectives at the Second Division headquarters he allegedly gave ‘intimate details’ of the sexual assault and use of the shovel.

It is also claimed that Madden stole the child’s iPad, according to the site.

He remains in Louisville Metro Corrections with a $1 million bond and will appear before the courts for an arraignment on Monday.

Details are yet to emerge of how the child came into contact with Madden.

Police were called to the family’s Hale Avenue home at around 4.30pm on Friday.

Madden was previously charged with another sex crime in 2017 but was later deemed incompetent to stand according to the Courier-Journal.

In that alleged incident, he was claimed to have ‘bit the victim on her face above her left eye, removing a large chunk of the victim’s face.’

Madden admitted to sexually assaulting her according to investigators, he also told them he intended to kill her and that she would ‘end up in a body bag,’ according to WDRB.

At time he was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree assault and terroristic threatening.

Those charges were dismissed in February by Judge Annie O’Connell who reviewed six separate reports about Madden’s ‘intellectual deficits.’

She concluded that he would not ‘be able to follow the evidence presented during a trial,’ according to the site.

O’Connell wrote: ‘Mr. Madden lacks the intellectual capacity to understand his basic Constitutional rights.’

She also determined that would be ‘unlikely to regain competency in the foreseeable future.’

After the alleged incident on Friday, the community was described as ‘hot’ and ‘heated’ by Yolanda Walker, President of the neighborhood’s leadership council.

She told WDRB: ‘The neighborhood is hot. They are heated. They are heated, because they are just beyond belief.

‘I don’t know if you want to put it on the news, but I’d like to see him castrated.’

Speaking of the previously alleged charges against Madden, Walker added: ‘How did he get on the street?’

Ruth Watkins, a neighbor of the child’s family, told WDRB: ‘Well, there’s only one kind of prayer you can send. It’s ‘”Lord have mercy, and Lord send the angels to watch over her.”‘

Upon hearing the news she described a ‘hurting, paining feeling going through my heart’ and struggled to believe that ‘something like that would happen on this street.’
