A Florida man pushed his live-in girlfriend to the ground during a heated argument about the impeachment hearings, police say.

Public records indicate that the 60-year-old girlfriend is a registered Democrat. 

The suspect, Ernest Ford, 62, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery on Friday.

He was released from Manatee County Jail in Sarasota on Saturday after posing $1,000 bond.

According to the arrest report, police were called to the couple’s residence at the Villa Del Sol, a mobile home community for those aged 55 and older.

Ford, who stands at 5ft10in and weighs 272 pounds, and his girlfriend of seven years ‘engaged in a verbal dispute about the impeachment hearings’ at around 7:45pm on Friday night, police say.

The victim who is not named, told police that Ford ‘retreated to a back bedroom in the shared residence and continued the argument.’

She then walked to the rear of the home ‘to confront the defendant.’

At this point, the ‘altercation became physical,’ according to a police report obtained by The Smoking Gun.

Ford ‘grabbed the victim by her shoulders and pushed her to the ground,’ the arrest report claims.

‘The victim obtained a scrape on her right knee.’

Police do not specify the exact nature of the argument or what was said.

Records indicate that Ford is not a registered voter.

The congressional impeachment inquiry is looking into whether he abused his office for personal political gain in his handling of Ukraine.

The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted between November 25 and 26 found that 47 per cent of Americans supported impeachment, including eight in 10 Democrats, one in 10 Republicans and four in 10 independents.

It also found that 40 per cent of Americans opposed impeachment, including one in 10 Democrats, eight in 10 Republicans and five in 10 independents.
