Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has revealed the exact moment that he ‘knew’ his side would win the Premier League 2023-24 title.

This year, the title race went down to the final day of the season as City were pushed all the way to the finish line by rivals Arsenal.

In the end, it was Pep Guardiola and his side that reigned supreme after a final day victory over West Ham ensured their place above the Gunners at the top of the table.

However, despite the thrilling title race this season, Al Mubarak insisted he was confident that City would win the league back in October.

During his annual end-of-season debrief, he said: ‘When did I know that we were going to win the league? I’m going to surprise you with that one. Arsenal away.

‘We didn’t play particularly well, we didn’t play particularly bad, I think it was an off game by our standards.

‘But I don’t think that we deserved to lose. We lost with that deflected goal in the last minutes.

‘I said, ‘This is why we’re going to win the league. Today, I know how this team is going to react going forward, and I know that we are going to win the league.’

City lost the clash 1-0 after a deflected effort from Gabriel Martinelli wrong-footed Ederson and crept into the visitors’ net.

Meanwhile, Al Mubarak also insisted the club will ‘find the right solution’ that works for Pep Guardiola with his future up in the air.

‘We have had this conversation many times before, you know that, over the years of the contract,’ he said.

‘Pep has always been fully committed to this club, fully committed to every contract that he has signed with us.

‘This decision on his future is always a decision that we will take together, and I have no doubt that we will find, as always, we have done, the right solution that works for Pep and works for us.’

Mail Sport revealed last month that Guardiola is expected to call time on a spell of unprecedented dominance at City next summer.

Guardiola, who joined City eight years ago, has 12 months left on his current deal and there is a growing belief among sources that it could be his last at the club.

Al Mubarak also stated that his intentions are to secure a historic fifth league title for City, as they prepare to head into the 2024-25 campaign.

He explained: ‘Five in a row. Absolutely. Without a doubt. Actually, to be clear, this is I think something that I’m most proud of in this club and in this organisation that we have.

‘From top to bottom, I would say that if you asked this question to anyone, they would give probably the same answer. Players, executives, physios, board. Whoever you ask, they will answer the same thing.

‘And that five in a row happened the second that final whistle went against West Ham. I remember just going down to the pitch and just telling almost everybody that I saw, ‘Excellent. Fantastic result. We’re so proud. But now we’re going for five in a row.’
