Man in his twenties is knifed to death in Hackney as London’s murder toll rises to 128 this year

  • Police and paramedics scrambled to Hackney at 2pm to reports of a stabbing
  • Victim was found with knife wounds but was pronounced dead at 2.33pm 
  • One man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held in custody 

A man in his twenties has been stabbed to death in broad daylight in east London, bringing the capital’s murder toll to 128 this year. 

Police and paramedics were scrambled to Clarence Mews in Hackney at 2pm today where they found the victim suffering knife wounds. He was pronounced dead at 2.33pm. 

One man has been arrested at the scene and is being held in custody on suspicion of murder. 

There is still a large police presence in the area with shocked onlookers congregating around the cordon.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘Police were called at 2.01pm on Thursday 5 December to reports of a stabbing in Clarence Mews, Hackney.

‘Officers, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended and found a man seriously injured. 

‘Despite their best efforts the man – believed to be aged in his 20s – and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 14:33hrs.

‘His next of kin are in the process of being informed. Formal identification awaits and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

‘One man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder – he remains in custody at a north London police station.
