Sitting on the roof of an ambulance, a police officer used a portable speaker to ask the man to get down from the bridge, The Daily Telegraph reported.

‘I need you to not worry about that,’ she told the man.

The man has reportedly continued to inch his way up the structure amid the windy conditions. It’s understood he first climbed up at about 9.40pm.

A NSW Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia a police operation is underway at the bridge, which connects Rozelle to Pyrmont.

The spokeswoman said vehicles are urged to avoid the area.

At about 9.50pm, Live Traffic Sydney tweeted: ‘Western Distributor on Anzac Bridge, a police operation has closed the road westbound, use diversions, expect delays, exercise caution.’

An officer with abseiling gear and a helmet is at the scene.
