Man shoots his wife and daughter in murder-suicide

The remains of Caroline Dym (pictured), 18, were discovered Friday following an apparent murder-suicide

A wealthy businessman with alleged ties to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo gunned downed his wife and daughter before turning the gun on himself in an apparent double murder-suicide.

Authorities said that Steven Dym, 56, Loretta, 50, and Caroline, 18, were discovered inside their Westchester mansion Friday morning at 11.00am by the family’s housekeeper.

Police said would not reveal where the bodies were found or in what order the mom and daughter were killed.

In 2002, the Dyms donated $4,150 to Cuomo’s failed gubernatorial campaign, according to The New York Post, and were thanked by the governor personally in his 2003 book ‘Crossroads: The Future of American Politics.’

A Cuomo spokesperson told the Post he has not been in contact with the family for more than a decade.

‘The acknowledgements in the book were to thank many past supporters from the 2002 campaign. The governor has not seen or heard of this person in 15 years,’ said spokesman Richard Azzopardi.

A motive for the incident has yet to be reached by authorities.

Steven Dym was the CEO of Gabriel Management in New York City, a realty company founded by his dad.

Loretta was a businesswoman and vice president of Club Quarters Hotels in Manhattan and a volunteer with Make-A-Wish foundation.

USA Today reports that the family has been involved in prior violent instances, with Steven Dym’s mother being remanded to a psychiatric hospital after she attacked his father, Lawrence, with a hatchet while he slept.

Lawrence ultimately survived the incident while Dym’s mother, Paula, was placed in a mental care facility.

Steven and Loretta Dym’s daughter, Caroline, was a student-athlete at Sacred Heart Greenwich.

According to the Post, Caroline Dym was a star of the school’s golf team and excelled at her studies, taking second place in a regional science fair in February.

The family leaves behind a 20-year-old son, William, who is currently studying in southern California.

Neighbors told the Post that the Dym’s were private people, with only whispers of a crumbling marriage beginning to emerge.

‘I just heard they were getting a divorce,’ said one neighbor who declined to reveal their identity. ‘No one knows why.’

Eileen Rudnick, 55, told the Post that the violent episode has left her shaken.

‘I want to tell you these things don’t happen often around here,’ she said.

‘Very surprised. Very sad. You know, just unbelievable pain.’
