Man United boss Erik ten Hag is ‘reluctant to sell Mason Greenwood’

Erik ten Hag is ‘reluctant to sell Mason Greenwood’ and would prefer to send him on loan next season, as Man United consider their options after rape and assault charges against the forward were dropped

Erik ten Hag would prefer to send Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood out on loan next season rather than selling him permanently, according to reports.

Greenwood had attempted rape and assault charges against him dropped in February, but United have since been conducting their own internal investigation, with the 21-year-old yet to return to action.

The Red Devils are considering their options, with the opportunity to loan Greenwood out or sell him both on the table.

Ten Hag is reluctant to let him leave for good, though, and would prefer a temporary switch for the striker instead, as reported by the Manchester Evening News

Mail Sport revealed earlier this month that United were contemplating sending Greenwood out on a season-long loan in Europe, with Italy, Spain and Turkey seen as his three most likely destinations.

This came off the back of Ten Hag suggesting that Greenwood could have a future at Old Trafford when he said the youngster had ‘shown in the past he can score goals for Manchester United’.

United were the lowest scorers in the top six last season, and are looking to sign a striker this summer.

Greenwood could also help their cause moving forward, having netted 29 goals in 135 appearances for the club, if they opt to keep him.

He has two years remaining on his contract, with United having the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

The club released their retained list earlier this month with Greenwood on it, despite having not played for United in 18 months.

However, shirts with his name on it are not available on the club’s website.

Greenwood has previously told friends he does not expect to play for his boyhood club ever again.

But Ten Hag appears to want to buy himself some time before making a final decision on Greenwood, indicating that his time at Old Trafford may not be over.
