Manchester United to bolster security at training ground

Manchester United are planning to build a ring of steel around their training ground to protect its star footballers from lorry-driving terrorists.

Security will be bolstered at the club’s Aon Training Complex to include bollards, automatic barriers and 11ft-high steel gates. 

Planning applications outlining the Premier League giants’ plans have been submitted to local officials. 

Club bosses said: ‘A range of measures are proposed.

‘This level of security is required due to the high profile of Manchester United and to ensure visitors are controlled and the complex remains secure.’ 

A source told The Sun: ‘The police have told potential terror targets to be vigilant and United’s fame puts them near the top of the pecking order.’

It comes after a Premier League game was postponed when a fake bomb was discovered at Old Trafford last year. 

It turned out to have been used as part of a security drill.
