Mariah Carey’s Twitter is hacked by prankster who makes sexual and racial remarks

Mariah Carey’s Twitter account was hacked on Wednesday.

‘I take a freaking nap and this happens?’ the musical artist, 49, said of the hacking hours after the public messages were first sent.

A series of uncharacteristic tweets began appearing on the singer’s account began at 3:23 p.m. P.T., some of them mentioning rapper Eminem, who Carey has a storied past with, Variety reported.

The latest: Mariah Carey’s Twitter account was hacked on Wednesday, as a prankster posted a series of tweets to the account of the 49-year-old singer. She was snapped in LA in October

Among the tweets posted included: ‘Eminem can still hold this p****…’ and one that read, ‘Eminem has a little p****.’

Others posted pointed to other handles to follow, used the N-word or mentioned Chuckling Squad, a group linked to the August hacking of the social media site’s CEO, Jack Dorsey.

The tweets were eventually removed from the Grammy-winning singer’s account, which has more than 21.4 million followers.

Twitter officials told USA TODAY that a probe was launched into the hacking.

‘As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised account and are currently investigating the situation,’ the company said.

The past between the One Sweet Day songstress and Eminem was back in the headlines earlier this month when her ex-husband Nick Cannon, 39, and the Detroit rapper exchanged diss tracks rehashing their past problems.

Hacking aside, it’s been a fantastic week for Mariah, who’s mom to eight-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with Cannon, as the success of her holiday hit All I Want for Christmas Is You buoyed her to become the first-ever performer to score singles that hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list over four decades – the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.

The song’s number one status for the third consecutive week comes for the week of January 4, 2020, making her the first performer of the decade to lead the chart, Billboard said Monday.

Carey first released the holiday song in 1994 on her album Merry Christmas, and re-released it this year with an updated video to coincide with its 25th anniversary. With the quarter-century gap, the song’s path to the top spot is the longest in the history of the chart.

It hit the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 for the weeks of December 21 and December 28, and also set holiday streaming records, according to the outlet.

With the number one hit, Mariah passed a vaunted list of artists who had past achieved the feat in three decades: Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Usher.

Carey’s now racked up 19 number one hits over the course of her career, garnering her first number one hit with Vision of Love in August of 1990, just eight months short of another decade in the 1980s.

Carey has also had 10 songs to remain at number one for three or more weeks – surpassing The Beatles and Rihanna in another record-setting feat – according to the outlet.

Past singles that remained there included 1990’s Vision of Love and Love Takes Time; 1991’s Emotions; 1993’s Dreamlover and Hero; 1995’s Fantasy and One Sweet Day; 1997’s Honey; and 2005’s We Belong Together.

Carey told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month about the way the upbeat seasonal song gained traction over the past 25 years.

‘When it first came out, it was more of a gradual thing,’ she said. ‘It was popular, but it didn’t have what it has now.

‘I feel like people have grown up with the song and it’s become a part of people’s lives in terms of the way they celebrate the holidays. That makes me feel really proud as someone that loves Christmas so much.’

In the chat, Carey said she was initially apprehensive about releasing a holiday album in 1994 ‘so early in [her] career,’ less than five years after she broke out with Vision of Love.

‘I didn’t feel, from a strategic point of view, that it was time to do something like that,’ she said. ‘As much as I love Christmas, I thought that the record company was off. Obviously, I couldn’t have been more wrong.’
