Married At First Sight boss reveals plans for series spin-off… after previously ruling out a celebrity series

Fans eagerly hoping for a Married At First Sight spin-off will have to curb their enthusiasm.

Tara McWilliams, who is credited with transforming the experiment into the ratings juggernaut it is today, revealed that while she wouldn’t rule out the idea, they have no plans to have a series featuring celebrities or an all-stars season anytime soon.

‘I’d never say never, but it’s not ever been on our radar,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

John Walsh, Nine’s executive producer John Walsh agreed: ‘I don’t think anyone would believe it, you know, I think it’s the reason we wouldn’t have it.’

It comes weeks after Adrian Swift, Nine’s Head of Production & Development, also extinguished speculation at the recent Screen Forever conference, saying, ‘No,’ when asked about potential spin-off plans.

‘We talked about it, and we think about it,’ Swift explained.

‘I guess one of the things you’ve got to be really careful of in commercial television is if you have a goose that lays the golden egg, can I have two geese that lay the golden eggs?,’ he added.

‘You probably will end up with a goose cut in half and a dead goose that doesn’t lay anything.’

Swift’s remarks hint at a strategy to maintain the integrity and allure of the original series without oversaturating the market or diminishing the brand.

‘I do worry that every time we’ve tried to do spin-offs or even two shows of something in a year, it’s utterly diminished the show,’ he added.

‘So my response to that is ‘Maybe but probably not.’

‘Married At First Sight continues on Sunday at 7pm on Channel Nine.
