Married At First Sight’s Al Perkins forced to make public apology by Western Australian government after being pictured patting a quokka

Married At First Sight star Al Perkins has made a public apology after he took a photo of himself touching a quokka.

The former reality star revealed that the penance was made on the behest of after the Western Australian government following the encounter with the furry critter on Rottnest Island earlier this year, which he documented on Instagram.

‘At first everyone thought it was so cute, but then the WA people started chiming in and it starting getting bad,’ the 27-year-old said on Ollie Skelton’s TOSSER podcast this week.

‘I want to say that I am sincerely sorry for my actions and my behaviour on the day of going on Rottnest Island,’ he added.

‘After seeing one of your prized fur babies I just had to touch it. I know you guys said not to but I am really sorry and I ask for your forgiveness.’

Touching quokkas is strictly forbidden, with signs all around the island warning visitors that feeding or interacting with the animals is banned.

Offenders who ignore the warnings and touch the protected marsupials can face a fine of up to $300 – and Al had even shared one of the signs to his Instagram.

It comes after news that Al appears to have split with his girlfriend Hope Kelesis.

The star, who appeared on the Channel Nine dating show in 2022, appears to have called time on his whirlwind romance after almost one year together.

The pair unfollowed each other on Instagram earlier this month and have deleted photos together from their social media accounts.

Kelesis, 18, has also wiped all traces of Perkins from her TikTok account.

Their split comes weeks after Perkins made the decision to end his time in the limelight.

The reality television contestant announced that he wants to concentrate on his spirituality.

A friend close to Al has said ‘He’s grown up a lot lately’.
