Maryssa Eason’s stepfather says justice system ‘failed’ the 11-year-old

They regained custody of their children Wednesday after they were removed from the family home in April.

But Teen Mom star Jenelle Evans and her husband David Eason have come under fire from his daughter Maryssa’s stepfather.

Shane Rich – who’s married to Maryssa’s mom Whitney Johnson Rich – said the justice system ‘failed’ the 11-year-old.

‘We are very upset and Maryssa is traumatized,’ Shane told The Ashley on Saturday.

‘She was very brave and honest and the justice system failed her. We just told her to protect herself…and do what she has to do to peacefully survive there. It’s a sad thing for a child to have to do, but it’s the only option in this situation, for now.

Rich added: ‘My wife feels helpless and we both have a very bad feeling about this.’

Jenelle and David’s children were removed from their family home by a judge, who deemed the kids ‘at risk’ following David’s terrifying dog-killing incident.

Eason shot and killed their family dog Nugget in April after the puppy nipped at their daughter’s face, which David happened to catch on video.

Whitney previously lost custody of Maryssa due to substance abuse issues in 2017.

‘My wife’s lawyer and CPS said there’s nothing anyone can do. CPS had strong evidence, but there’s no justice system. There’s no redemption for a woman who’s had a previous substance abuse problem,’ Rich explained.

‘My wife already knew how she was going to be looked at. She’s been through it time and time again. We hope [the judge] slept real good last night. We surely didn’t. Our hearts are broken.’

Shane claimed that Maryssa ‘will have to act happy and suck her feelings up, if she can, but a child shouldn’t have to do that.’

The fired Teen Mom star is the mother of nine-year-old son Jace with ex-boyfriend Andrew Lewis; five-year-old son Kaiser with ex-fiancé Nathan Griffith; and two-year-old daughter Ensley with Eason.

Of getting them back, the Read Between the Lines author tweeted: ‘All I have to say is at least I learn from my past mistakes.’

Emergency service records revealed that authorities were called to their home 25 times in the last year.

The records revealed that nearly one third of the calls were welfare check requests and six calls were made by someone inside the house.

TMZ also reported that the couple have ‘enrolled in couples therapy’ in efforts to get their children back

David and Jenelle were married on Sept. 23, 2017 in a backyard ceremony that was filmed for MTV’s Teen Mom 2.

Evans was subsequently let go by MTV following Eason’s killing of Nugget.

In a statement, the network said: ‘We have stopped filming with Jenelle … as of April 6, 2019, and have no plans to cover her story in the upcoming season,’ noting that they also ‘ended [their] relationship with David Eason over a year ago in February 2018.’

The network had already stopped showing Eason on the reality show  after he went on a homophobic rant, referring to gay and transgender people as ‘abominations’, and arguing about gun laws with a user on Twitter.
