Meghan King Edmonds shares a sweet video of her son Hart after heartbreaking diagnosis

Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan King Edmonds shared a sweet video of her son Hart trying to blow a kiss, to Instagram on Friday.

The video comes after she offered fans a candid update on one of her boys’ heartbreaking health situations on Thursday.

Edmonds, 34, revealed the baby boy’s newly diagnosed neurological condition, PVL, and revealed he is at risk of being diagnosed with Cerebral Pals on her blog.

Almost got it:Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan King Edmonds shared a sweet video of her son Hart trying to blow a kiss, to Instagram on Friday

In the video the twin sits on the floor playing with toys and at one point is joined by his big sister.

The wife of former MLB player Jim Edmonds said on the video that he was ‘trying to blow a kiss,’ but got distracted and kept sucking his thumb instead.

The day before she started her heartfelt post saying ‘From the minute he was born I knew something was different with Hart.’

After noticing developmental differences between son Hart and his twin brother Hayes, 13 months, she reached out for professional guidance.

Despite assurances from her pediatrician that he was ‘fine’, Meghan pushed to see specialists, and eventually found a diagnosis.

‘I begged for a neurologist who specializes in Cerebral Palsy (I jumped through hoops to get this appointment, so many hoops) and she said he might be fine. I then begged for an MRI.’

She continued: ‘Eight days after the bottom fell out of my life I put my son through an elective MRI with anesthesia,’ seeming to reference recent personal strife between her and husband Jim.

‘Three days later Hart’s neurologist called me. Hart has minor Periventricular Leukomalacia on both sides of his brain (namely the white matter), but more so on his right,’ she added.

WHAT IS PVL?

Periventricular Leukomalacia (PVL) is a type of brain damage.

A person with PVL has damaged and dead cells in the white matter at the topp of the brain, which controls impulses and muscle control.

Most people with PVL (60-100 percent) go on to develop cerebral palsy. PVL is one of the four main causes of cerebral palsy.

WHAT CAUSES PVL?

It is usually caused by a lack of oxygen to those areas before birth, most often between 26 and 34 weeks’ gestation.

It could be that the mother contracted an infection during pregnancy that caused a disruption, or that she has a pre-existing condition like low blood pressure.

Twins have a higher risk of one being born with PVL, particularly if they are premature or weigh very little at birth.

A lack of oxygen at birth also raises the risks of PVL.

TREATMENT

PVL cannot be cured, but physical and speech therapy can help.

Meghan, who is also the mother of two-year-old daughter Aspen, added that diagnosis explained all of the concerns for her son, namely, the ‘(somewhat) delayed physical milestones, the lack of fluidity with arm and leg movements, the stiffness in joints, the weakness in his lower back, the somewhat favored use of his right side.’

Her doctor said this condition primarily appears in babies who were born premature, but since Hart and Hayes were not born premature, the doctor believes the damage was caused ‘a couple of months before birth.’

She added that her son’s brain damage is ‘irreversible’ and revealed how her husband reacted to the news.

‘I immediately called Jimmy to tell him. He was surprised, which surprised me,’ Edmonds added.

‘Then I called Missouri First Steps to get him enrolled in the therapy he’d been previously denied due to only having very minor – if any – developmental delays, but now his diagnosis qualified him,’ she said.

‘I then called each one of my family members individually in order to give them the respect to grieve (because I know my son affects many more people than just my husband and myself),’ she added.

She said that while she is still coming to terms with the challenge ahead, she is drawing strength from God, praying for a ‘miracle’ and viewing this as a ‘gift’.

‘We are not somehow compromised or punished for having a child with special needs (whatever that may or may not mean!), we are BLESSED.

‘We were chosen to take on this special person,’ she added.

It’s been a tough go for the family, who have been mired in personal scandal.

Meghan was heartbroken when the blog All About the Tea published an explicitly detailed post late last month claiming Jim, 48, had cheated on her.

Jim released a statement to Us Weekly, in which he apologized to his wife and announced his intent to take legal action against the ‘baseball madame.’

He also insisted it wasn’t a physical affair: ‘Regrettably, I had a lapse in judgment. I engaged in an inappropriate conversation with this person.

‘At no time was there any type of relationship or physical contact. Absolutely none.

‘This is someone trying to profit from my name. I am aware she has done this to others in the past.’

Meghan took to her own blog with a post titled I’m Sad, addressing the whole scandal, which she said she only learned about when the initial blog post was released.

She wrote: ‘Do I believe him? I don’t know. Because I don’t trust him anymore.

‘Physical or not, he still had an affair and he admits this to me.’
