Violent scenes broke out between members of an anti-trans demonstration and counter-protestors in Melbourne’s CBD.
Around 100 people showed up to the #WomenWillSpeak rally, held by the Women’s Action Group, before members began to clash with pro-transgender activists on Spring Street around 1pm on Saturday.
Scenes began to escalate quickly as pro-trans supporters with megaphones attempted to push through a police line.
At least two protestors were tackled to the ground by officers before pepper spray was deployed.
In footage captured by the Herald Sun, horrified diners had front row seats to a heated brawl outside The Cricketer’s Bar at the Hotel Windsor between a women’s right’s supporter, dressed in all black and wearing sunglasses, and a group of protestors.
The man, who had allegedly been antagonising transgender supporters, is seen shoving the activists before grabbing one by the throat and slamming them against the wall.
‘F****ng kill yourself, f****ng kill yourself,’ one protestor is heard screaming.
Multiple objects such as a camera tripod, an umbrella and cardboard signs were used as makeshift weapons.
Video footage from near the parliament showed police trying to subdue protestors with pepper spray in wild scenes.

A Victoria Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia it was unhappy with the violence that broke out during the weekend rally.
‘Victoria Police has been left disappointed at the behaviour of many attending a demonstration in the city today,’ a police spokesperson said.
‘Our members were confronted by hostile members of the crowd who acted out violently towards police.
‘We have a long history of supporting peaceful protest but will not tolerate disgraceful and unlawful behaviour,’ they added.
The statement said Victoria Police had a ‘significant presence’ prepared for the estimated 100-person protest.
It confirmed OC Spray was deployed when members of the group attempted to breach the police line.
‘Two women aged in their 20s were arrested at the scene and are expected to be charged on summons,’ the spokesperson added.
‘As is standard procedure available footage will be reviewed to identify any further offending.’
